What is Overpopulous? Oh boy! We were so busy these last 72 hours, that we didn’t find the time to post here about our participation in Ludum Dare 23.

This competition marks the 10th anniversary of Ludum Dare, which has a whopping 1401 games for you to try out!

Have fun while we take our deepest sleep ever.

Ludum Dare 22 Results

“alone I art” got 4th place on the 72h Jam! Out of 174!

During these 20 days of voting, we received so much feedback that the wait for the results wasn’t as exciting as reading what people though of our game.

And this time we did our best to rate as many games as possible. There are some great games out there, and we’re not just talking about the ones who got into Top 25 or Top 50 (Compo, Jam). We’ll make a list of our favorite ones if we can find them all.

In the meanwhile, you can go to Ludum Dare and read our Post Mortem, among other things in our journal page there.

Congratulations to the other game makers out there. And thanks for all of your support!

Submitted in the nick of time!

(UPDATED TO 1.01, SOUND PROBLEMS SOLVED AND MINOR BUG FIXES)

There was like 3 minutes left!

We’re dead tired. And the game is filled with bugs. Minor bugs, but we’re not sure we can solve some of them due to them being problems within Flixel.

Again, for 72 hours, we feel like we did pretty well.

Post mortem incoming, hold tight!

“alone I art” is the game!

alone I art“ is a game about spending valuable time alone with art.

You’re a shady character in a museum. You love art. You love it so much that you need to steal it. But to steal the art, you need to be alone. You can’t have anyone spot you stealing or carrying the art in your trench coat, or you’ll never be allowed be alone with art ever again.

We’re making great progress. Our lead artist had to go home but he left all of the necessary art done, we’re just making some alternative tile sets to bring some variety and color coding do the game.

What? You’re still working? Boriiiiing!

Gameplay mechanics are being prototyped whle the AI and pathfinding are on their way. We’re confident this game is going to be at least as fun as the process of making it.

You can check our prototype video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QPObYaP9axc

Guess what? We’re in Ludum Dare #22!

Less than 8 hours in the first day of the Ludum Dare #22 Jam and where making great improvements over the previous competition.

Pancakes!

The theme is “Alone” and we came up with a really fun game. Here’s a sneak peak of our protagonist!

Ludum Dare 72h Jam Day 2

Ludum Dare Jam rages on!

Today was quite the productive day. It’s nice to see everything taking form at the same time: collisions, menus, particles, and music. Oh man, the music, it’s going to blow your eardrums away, and not in a “oh god this sounds like screaming children” way, but in a good way! Honest.

We didn’t take pictures of people looking jaded into their screens because everyone was busy. The bright side of that is that we have a bunch of screenshots of the actual work!

Like animations for our fearless protagonist:

And an optimized collision code:

Art is practically done. And so is this post. We are dead tired. But it’s hard to stop working on this game. Only 21 hours left!

Sh**s’ so cash!

Ludum Dare 72h Jam Day 1

Oh boy!

This picture looks nothing like what we’re looking at the computer on our side. Shame that the coder using it bites after 5am, and won’t let us snatch a screenshot of the game right now!

We’re a Portuguese team of 8 people and this is our first time jammin’ for Ludum Dare. Lucky us to start with such a hard theme to do something original with. We even went to sleep without a proper idea after 2 hours of brainstorming, at 5am.

Waking up the next morning, we decided to go ahead with an idea that was nearly killed 5 hours ago. In the blink of an eye, we started making the art, planning the code and nailing how the game mechanics would work.

So there’s this guy who finds a dinosaur egg in the bottom of quite a deep hole, and pulls it out from its rock perch. Then everything starts shaking, just like ancient temples should, and he starts climbing every debris he can, while crying for his mommy.

Unfortunately it’s not his mother than answers the call, but the egg’s mother. A gigantic dinosaur shows up and starts crushing the bottom of the tunnel, trying to catch the egg stealing crybaby.

So what’s the big deal about this game? Well, we’re aiming for a fast arcade puzzle feel and you don’t control the character.

The game is called Eggscape for some weird reason.

Now excuse us while we desecrate wacom pens and rewatch Fast and Furious again, and again, and again, while we the others sleep.
